Re: self steering vanes on barn door rudder boats?

My 28CK has a Monitor vane that apparently worked fine for a San Diego-Hawaii-Washington voyage with the previous owner. I spent a couple hours this weekend removing a plywood storage platform that was U-bolted to the framework, and although long, the strut system seems quite stiff and sturdy. If an...

Plywood rot below port?

Hello, All. About to begin my port replacement project on my 28 CK (#4, 1979) and have a question about the teak plywood on the inside of the coachtop. Of 8 ports, the one over the galley sink has leaked to the point that the plywood has rotted and delaminated. Has anyone removed the plywood altoget...

28 CK Halyard Sizing?

Hi-

Thinking it’s time to start on the running rigging on my 79 28 Cat Ketch. Can someone tell me the line size for the main and mizzen halyards? The outer covers on mine are about completely gone, and I don’t want to guess. Thanks! Jeff

Re: Mast shifting at the bottom

Got it. I haven't gotten up to the base of the main mast yet-I'm thinking I'll want to put a VHF antenna on the main and an AIS antenna on the mizzen. Sounds like I might be drilling a hole.

Re: Mast shifting at the bottom

Sorry for a bit of a threadjack here, but where do wires exit the mast(s)?

Re: Mast wiring conduit

Question for anyone with an older cat ketch: Where do the wires exit the mast? I’m not to that point yet, and I believe I only have a single anchor light up high, on top of the main mast. I’d like to put a vhf whip on each mast, one for radio and one for AIS, as well as a tricolor. Is the baseplate ...

Re: New Owner

Don't know why I'm just seeing this now, but yes-we're talking about the same boat. The scene below decks was about as dire as the scene topsides, only with more wasps and spiders. We filled the marina dumpster TWICE, and we're just about done with the cleanout phase. Good news is, the mossy sailcov...

Re: New 28CK User

Awesome. I'm planning on doing two panels, 42"x19" on either side of the centerline. I'm going to take a few photos next time I'm out at the boat, and I'll post them for critique. On the port side of your companionway, is there a stainless 'riser' with stoppers and camcleats? Can't tell if mine is s...

Re: 28 CK...Dumping my wheel for the tiller?

Also, if you have a below decks autopilot that connects to the quadrant, and if you ever have steerage issues at the pedestal (such as a broken chain) you could use the AP to steer. Good thought, but the quadrant on the 28 is actually ABOVE-deck on the 28...it's just under a teak grate behind the h...
