Re: Syntheic Headstay
Ok folks I have gone and done it. Guess I will be the guinea pig! I did a lot of research on this topic and talked with quite a few folks including riggers and a sailmaker. Here is what I came up with. 1) Synthetic rigging really makes sense. The price has come way down, and while it is more vulnera...

Re: F40/40 Main Halyard Chafe
Well I have been replacing my forestay and think I figured out why job chaffing problems occur there. The toggle for the forestay is right there and it has a clevis pin this a cotter pin through it. I think that cotter pin chaffes away at the job halyard. My guess is that because our masts are furth...

Re: Syntheic Headstay
Anybody know the standard diameter wire used for the forestay on on the F40/40? For use with a camberspar set up?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Syntheic Headstay
Yeah I have been reading plenty on it. UV and Chafe are concerns, but the reality is there is a lot more myth out there than reality. Or rather all synthetics are often lumped together and people don't take the time to understand the differences. Dyneema is very resistant to UV. And pretty resistant...

Syntheic Headstay
Has anyone replaced their headstay on a sloop with a synthetic? I am going to have to replace mine soon and will be moving from roller furling to a camber spar set up. I have been reading a lot of material on various synthetics and maybe now is the time to go that way. Wondering if someone has alrea...

Re: Big pictures!
Awesome! Sorry to hear about the prop shaft! How did that happen? Hopefully we will race the Delta Ditch next year as well. We should try and get a few Freedoms!

Re: F40/40 Main Halyard Chafe
Thanks Geoff. I saw his replacement box on his website. Good to know it is worth it! Well the rigger who went up the mast found that the main halyard sheave had a nick in it. Probably enough to tear into the line over time. They new halyard is much thinner so shouldn’t be near it. But will still rep...

Re: F36/F38 running rigging lists
Interesting. I have twice used the lengths published in the owners manual for my F40/40 and ended up significantly short. I won’t be relying on it any more.

Re: F40/40 Main Halyard Chafe
Good to know. Yes the Jib/Spinnaker box seems a bit problematic. I will probably pull the mast next fall and look at doing something with that set up to improve it. I know Carliane on her F38 replaced hers with a nice set up. Anything you have done with yours?
