Re: beating at 45 degrees - advice from experts
It sounds like you're doing the right thing, which is experimenting! I am assuming you have a ketch, and not sure what you are calling the main. Be it so, consider having the foresail trimmed in similar to a jib (7 deg sheeting angle) and the aftsail near centerline. In any case, you want the aft sa...

Re: Freedom35 Pedrick- Track and slider for genoa
Are you flying a real genoa or the chamber spar. Generally, the track you installed is for small boats and the F35 is not small. If you give Harken the sail size and sheet angles in and out of the car they may be willing to get definitive for you, but I think your on the small end of things. Screw s...

Re: Replacement mast wedge
Good to know the material can be water jet cut. I am trying to remember how I cut the wedges that I cast, may have been a table saw or a jigsaw, or just a carpet knife. I also think I wet sanded it. Given the shape you are trying to achieve, I think a DIY option is to tape together an acrylic mold, ...

Re: Water coming in at shaft
Good to run that down and find the culprit (s). You can do bronze which may be $$$ - brass will also have corrosion issues. St. steel - go with 316 alloy would work. They also make fiberglass fittings that are meant for exhaust service.

Re: Tapered aluminum light/flag pole
The original F40 CC had Al masts - Two sections, the lower a fixed 10" diameter 1/4 wall. At about 15 ft a tapered section was pushed in and fastened w screws. I've not determine the wall thickness. The masts don't have a history of failure unless meeting bridges and such. They are rather flexible. ...

Re: lifeline height / netting
If you are doing neting on a diagonal - usually that's the way it comes unless it's custom -it's very tolerant to different heights.

Re: Mast collar clearance
If you cast a new collar - i have and mine doesn't leak - there are less expensive urethanes such as from Smooth-On. Clay is a good sealant but make sure it's compatible and does not affect the curing process (sulfur containing clays can i think). In any case, you do not want your mold to leak or fo...

Re: Recently bought a Freedom 40cc
Heya Pelican! Welcome to the group and wish you lots of joy with the new boat. She looks similar to this: "Re: Freedom 40 rig Marquesa has aluminum spars and isomat booms with jiffy reefing. The sails are on strongtrack and full baton sails. I've built a lazy jack system that is incorporated into th...
