Re: Replacement mast wedge
I just noticed in the drawing that there is a separate ring and collar. 2 pieces. So I was probably wrong about that and just never saw the ring set in the cabin top because the collar never came off. I have been using the terms interchangeably. I have always meant collar!

Re: Replacement mast wedge
Hey Carlianne, I had Jim Antrim, Cree Partridge and Ruben Gabriel out for a sail last week. We all agreed that my very significant noise was coming from the partners and it isn’t seated correctly. Mostly that my wedge isn’t driven in far enough. But it might be that it is worn as well. The wide part...

Re: Replacement mast wedge
Correct. I suspect a previous owner or yard had put the mast collar down with 5200. The mast pulled leaving the collar and the wedge in the cabin top. We had removed all nuts and as much caulking as we could. But the Collar and wedge still stayed. When we stepped the mast we just slid it back in. Cl...

Re: Replacement mast wedge
Yeah my mast has the wedge and a metal collar or ring. Not two pieces. That is the the way it was designed so sounds like a different system than yours.

Re: Replacement mast wedge
Thanks for the reply James. But without removing the ring, there is no way to "seat" the urethane ring correct? I think that is what happened to me. We pulled the mast and left the aluminum collar and urethane ring (underneath it) in place. But then when we stepped the mast we didn't take a step to ...

Re: Replacement mast wedge
Hey folks I am dealing with a LOT of noise coming from the mast/partners area since restepping my mast. It was silent before we pulled the mast. Now it sounds like the boat is coming apart. It has a urethane wedge like this but it is a little shy of the full circumference. Completing the circle is a...

Re: Masthead removal
All of the mast head cranes look beautiful! Tell me how it went with cables down the mast! I had a heck of time threading cables through mine a couple years ago and will need to do that again soon….foam at the base of the mast was tough! When I pulled my mast head off, I left the wires attached to ...

Re: Masthead removal
On a related question what have folks been using to seal at the deck? I used a Boat Life product that promptly cracked and leaked and makes a ton of noise. I want to dig it out and reseal with a better product. 4200? Something else? Do you mean the mast seal around the ring or at the collar? I have...

Re: Masthead removal
It is orange spray paint. I sanded the aluminum very smooth, primed with an aluminum primer a couple of coats and then a rust oleum orange paint 3 coats I think. Pretty happy with the results.
