Re: Restoring modified Freedom 45 CC to self-tending jib?

Just FYI, I have started down this path of replacing the roller furling with a camber spar set up on my Freedom 40/40. I bought a used camperspar from someone who decided to go from camberspar to roller furling. They both have their advantages and disadvantageous. But just FYI, Paul Dennis at Warren...

Re: Manual bilge pump

Hi Bad, that was our thinking on next step. Try to seal the pick up end and pressurize it. Maybe even pressurize it with colored smoke (we have a friend who works on HVAC systems and this is what they do). But the hose seems to run such a "buried" route I am not sure we would find it, but worth a tr...

Re: Manual bilge pump

Still troubleshooting Manual Bilge Pump on my F 40/40. Finally found the pickup in the rearmost section of the deep bilge, which on my "Anniversary Model" means pulling up the floor and removing the center 4D battery to access. And really the rearmost 4D as well since who wants to lay across a batte...

Re: Manual bilge pump

Kick starting an old thread here. My manual bilge pump isn’t working. After a bunch of researching I figured a Whale gusher Titan has the same hole pattern as the deck plate that fits into the molded cutout in the combing of my F 40/40. So I bought one online (returnable of course). Just wanted to h...

Re: Battery Woes

Great! Good luck. Check the water levels in the cells when you install it. I made the mistake of not checking once and ruined a good set of new batteries.
Who knew batteries would take up so much of our sailing consciousness?!

Re: Battery Woes

NiMH is great but does anyone make them in Group 31? Or other large sizes? Seems like the industry is moving towards LiFePo4. Which I think is great. But expensive for now.

Re: Battery Woes

Also make sure to measure your battery compartments against dimensions of batteries you are considering. Let’s just say battery sizing is a suggestion. I found out the hard way. They can be different in all dimensions.

Re: Battery Woes

Another option (what I did on my Newport) is my start and house batteries were in the same compartment. So I combined them all into one house bank and mounted a battery box and start battery in a different location. But it was a pain to do all the wiring.
Good luck!

Re: Battery Woes

Just a thought. If you feel you are going to abuse them (Deep dish charge them, not charge them back up properly, etc), get AGMs. They will take a lot more abuse than flooded lead acid batteries. Batteries like Lifeline of Trojan or Deka are better than Optima (look at weight, it is all about how mu...

Re: Changing from Roller Furler to Camber Spar

Al wrapped it in two layers of bubble wrap and then a canvas tarp. He took it to both FEdEx and UPS Freight (not package. They won’t touch anything that long). Both told him it had to be crated. So looking for other solutions.
