Re: Topic 1000

Every time I have rebedded a port light I have done some epoxy work to make the cut-outs in the cabin sides fit better. I also seal any exposed wood with epoxy. Last time I used West System 6-10, which, while expensive, is so much tidier than mixing and thickening in a cup. I mask the cut-out on bot...

Re: How to Service Loose Shifter?

shifter.jpg Two things: 1) you can get a cable brake, like this: http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=9534&familyName=Teleflex+Morse+Control+Cable+Brake and put it on the cable somewhere near the shifter. 2) if the shifter is kind of wobbly and it looks like the attac...

Re: New Freedon 25 owner checking in

Wow! Great job. I really enjoyed the F25 I had for 10 yrs. Based in Vancouver, BC, we sailed down into Puget Sound, San Juans, Gulf Islands and up to Desolation Sound. There's a group of PNW Freedom owners who get together most summers. We're gathering in Kingston July 31 to August 2. I can send you...

Haarstick Sails sold

Sad to hear that Steve Haarstick is retiring and has sold his business. It will now be a Quantum loft. Good news is that it looks like his staff are staying on. I'm glad to have bought Haarstick sails last year.

Re: Engine preparations - origional F32 yanmar

I installed Seabuilt access plates on my fuel tank -- one on each side of the baffle. The bonus was when I poured fuel back into the tank, I did it in 2 litre increments and marked the fuel gauge with a sharpie to have a better idea of how much fuel was actually in the tank. It's most accurate under...

Re: seaworthiness/mast cable

About the foam in the mast: I rewired my mast a few years ago. The cable was wrapped in foam that was shedding all over the place. I'm pretty sure it was the original installation and the foam was what was used to keep the cables quiet in the mast. When I put the new cable in, I put a group of 3 zip...

Re: freedom 25 lazy jacks

I found a tiller pilot really helpful -- then I could get the boat pointing perfectly into the wind and have my hands and eyes free to raise and lower the sail without hanging up the battens.
