Re: Zinc wear
Michael: Since your Zincs were gone you probably have no idea how long you were unprotected. I would suggest a carful inspection of all underwater metals. As for the cause, did you install anything last spring that is connected to your electric system or engine? I've heard of problems in nearby boat...

Re: No Zinc wear, good or bad?
I'm assuming that there was no pitting on the prop, shaft or other under water metals so little zinc wear is a good thing. I'd run my hand over those parts to be sure. A change in mooring location can bring a change in zinc consumption due to underwater metals in shallow water. I'm assuming you are ...

Re: Camberspar help
When you get the new guide you will notice a small hole in it. Use that to attach a short cord to it and to the forestay. This will prevent another loss.

Re: Stepping the mast this week
You will need to have the metal ring on the mast, suspended from the gooseneck, before installation begins. Be sure the flange will be facing up. Lower the mast through the deck and onto the step. Rotate the mast to align with the securing mechanism at the step, this may be a through bolt all the wa...

Re: New House Batteries - AGM or Flooded Cell?
Hi Ed: We had Lifeline agms, two 31s for house and a 27 for starting. House was under the nav table like yours starting was in the aft cabin replacing the lower drawer next to the berth. In my opinion agms are the way to go with this setup. "Out of sight, out of mind" occurs to me if you have floode...

Re: Carrying a dinghy
I've been sailing on a Catalina 380 lately and have the system below in use:

It has been working very well costal. Not sure about blue water.

Re: Mast cable slap (ARGH!)
You don't need the insulation. The cable ties wit tails attached are enough. Mine were still fine when I sold the boat after six years.

Re: Intake Issue
My F36 came to me with no external screen, just a flush with the hull hole for water to enter. There was a bronze, groco, strainer in the engine compartment. By the end of season on buzzards bay there was some grass in the strainer but never enough to cause overheating.

Re: Unstepping Mast - 28 Mull
The mast collar on my 36 looks the same as your picture. A socket wrench applied to the nuts will be all you need to remove them. Sharp knife between the mast and collar will do just fine. Between collar and deck plate is tough. Assuming the collar had sealant between it and the deck plate, you will...
