Re: self steering vanes on barn door rudder boats?
My pictures exceed the size this board allows so I can't post them. One thing to note about the Cape Horn for an F-33 is that the standard Capehorn has a vertical oar. Due to the slope aft of the F-33 rudder and my desire to keep the unit close to the transom rather then have tubing 3 feet off the b...

Re: self steering vanes on barn door rudder boats?
On my F-33 I installed a Capehorn wind vane (and previously a Voyager). Also considered a sailomat and discussed the same arrangement them as well. The unusual arrangement is that I ran the steering lines from the vane rudder through blocks wide on the transom and back to the rudder. So no lines goi...

Re: masthead light replacement
I didn't use the tricolor but I've had lopolights at the bow for about 8 years no problems. Had a minor lightning strike which killed all the LED bulbs in the cabin and on the stern. The lopos were the only LEDs that survived on the boat.

Re: F33 cutless bearings
F33s have no strut. Just the tube thru the hull where the shaft exits into the prop aperture. This is due to the fact that the original centerboard version of the F33 had a long shallow keel. Fin keels were then bolted to the bottom of this keel stub. Pretty strong arrangement even if a kluge.

Re: F33 cutless bearings
I have a US made F33. I changed my cutlass bearing a few years ago. I also have a PSS shaft seal. The cutlass bearing had worked its way inside an inch or so into the boat/tube. There were set screws on each side but covered with bedding compound and bottom paint so it took me a while to find them. ...

If the ports are like on my F-33 they are Fuller Brush ports. They are 5/8" plexiglass. They are still in production in 2 sizes. See http://www.fuller.com/index.php/marine.

Re: Cleaning Fuel Tank
Assuming your F-33 tank is like mine (your description so far sounds the same) its easy to clean the tank itself. I do it every couple of years. I just remove the inspection port when the tank is is low on fuel. I then use light rags or paper towel to reach in and manually clean the tank sides botto...

Torqueedo 801 battery and parts for sale cheap
I have a very lightly used battery with charger as well as 2 sets of pins, and various spare parts such as tiller and mount. My 801 drive unit froze up and the cost of repair wasn't worth it. Hate to just dispose of the battery since new its very expensive.

Re: Plumbing on my F28 fixed keel cat ketch
On my F33 the head sink drain is plumbed via a hose going back to the galley sink drain which goes down to a thru hull. The hose from the head goes on the port side along side the holding tank. For access one must unscrew and remove the bunk cover. Not sure if its the same on the 28.

Re: Autopilot ST4000 problem
I'm sure this isn't the problem if it goes wild for no reason. But figured I'd mention that on my raymarine controller if I put it in standby temporarily and then go back to track to waypoint without resetting the xtrack error it often takes a hard turn until it makes up for the error.
