OK, I’ve tried to remove the ring, if that’s what it’s called-no way can I get that off. It’s stainless steel and nothing can fit into it to wedge it out and there isn’t something to grip to get it out. It doesn’t seem like a removeable ring. My winch is a 23-not 21 as was talked about before.

Mr. furborough: What website did you go to to “upload” the barient
Manual? I need a 28+ manual. Bruce

I actually purloined my document from www.ericsonyachts.org, I have
checked there on your behalf and they have nothing listed for the 28+.
Barients was sold ultimately to Arco Winches in Australia and are now
known as Hutton-Arco, see www.huttonwinches.com. There is a little
information there about Barients winches, but not much.
I do have a general information sheet that Arco used to have listed
on their website. I’ll also post that to the files directory.

Thank you all so much for your help. The needle nose plyers did the trick. How exciting that at last something worked, now it’s just a matter of taking it apart and working on it. and of course not losing any parts-fat chance!!
