Barient Winches-Outhaul

Posted by Sward (swardfullsail@…>)
Hello all, I want to take my winches apart and grease and service them. Since Barient is no longer in business does anyone know where to get the pauls or spare parts to accomplish this task? One last comment on the outhaul line-is it possible to run a feeder line or new line attaching it to the old one and pulling it backwards to the end of the boom to replace. I understand about all the pulley’s/blocks inside, but wonder why I couldn’t do that without taking it all apart.“Life is a Reach, then you Jibe” SWARD

try looking in the www.cs-bb.com archives for winch overhaul. They have a
lot of info.
If not when I get back home next week I’ll look up my files.

Sward:

If
necessary, you can buy some spares for Barient winchers from this company is
Australia: http://www.huttonwinches.com/products/spares.
This clever fellow devised a way to make pawl springs for Barient
winches: http://www.wbryant.com/StellaBoat/fyi/winches/pawl/spring.htm.

I
stripped and cleaned the Barients on my former Freedom and did not need any
replacement parts. Most winch parts don’t wear out; they just get
clogged with old grease. To assure that you don’t lose any parts,
get a cardboard box and cut a hole in it the size of the winch base, place over
winch before disassembling and it will catch any pieces that want to drift
away.

SWARD, did you try a Google search? I found a website in Australia
which sells parts for Barient and Barlow winches. Sounds like they
would be willing to work with you in trying to figure out exactly what
you’ll need. http://www.arco-winches.com

If you guys get stumped, the subject of Barient spare parts has been tossed around a lot at the C&C group.

“We” have the same issues trying to find parts…

Hopefully I won’t have that problem much longer.
