Three of the five Beckson portlights on my Freedom 30 are leaking.
Two of them seriously. I can see where the water collects in the
corner of the portlight and doesn’t drain away because the angle of
the coachtop is too steep.
I uploaded three photos showing the portlights. They are photos 47
through 49.
I obtained replacement gaskets from Beckson and installed them, but
the leaking continues. The water is not making its way past the
gaskets – I can see that through the plastic window. It’s
apparently been going on for some time, because the teak plywood
underneath one of the portlights is rotted on the inside just below
the window.
I’m considering replacing the Beckson portlights with Lewmar ones
that are just slightly larger.
Has anyone done this? Does anyone recommend another manufacturer?
Does anyone have experience with Lewmar portlights leaking? Any
help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the bedding is shot so may not be a problem with the
port itself. If you want to stay with plastic ports the Fuller ports
that were standard issue on the F-33 (like mine) and some other
models seem very good to me. Parts are available and the port itself
is quite robus with a solid 5/8" acrylic and robust seal and gasket.
They come in two sizes. On the F-33 they are 5x12.
You can find them at http://www.fuller.com/products.asp?cat=2 I’ve
ordered spare screens and gaskets.
They’re not bronze or stainless with tempered glass but in northern
climates they don’t sweat as much and for plastic they’re the best
I’ve seen.
25 years ago when I was cruising in the Exumas (Bahamas) for several
years I met a guy on a boat who claimed to be Mr. Fuller Brush or
some relation (my memory is dim) and he told me about some marine
products. Guess they still make some of them.
