Bloopers

Posted by ron barr (rwhb@…>)

Anybody come up with a way to fly a drifter or blooper or
similar, on an F 32 Hoyt, instead of the Spinnaker with all its lines and
pole? I can see problems with leading a guy or sheet to the cockpit.

Hi Ron,
I’ve had this crazy idea of getting a 4’ length of pole
fabricated for the gun mount, adding the right fittings to the end,
and securing it appropriately to the bow pulpit for stability. Then
you could purchase a “right sized” sail for that purpose and use the
spinnaker halyard to hoisting. It should be a good reaching sail and
simpler to use than the gun mount spinnaker. It would only be good
for reaching, however as it would have the same issues downwind as
any traditional headsail would have.
Rick Simons sent this link to the group awhile ago as a source for
the sprit you’d need. I am still cogitating about doing it myself.

Hello,

I have a 32 Hoyt with the Gunmount. The previous owner had a drifter
made, and while I haven’t flown it yet, I will try to take some
pictures of the way my boat is rigged and post them.

In the meantime, if someone has any insight on where to purchase
replacement ignition switch/etc. that would be very helpful.

Thanks.

Hi,
Have you ever seen the Garry Hoyt idea of having a tube atop the bow
pulpit, mounted athwartships, rotatable, supporting a mainsail track
and traveler? With this rig, the gennaker/blooper, which is roller
furled, can be rigged to windward to be a more effective downwind
sail. It looks like the hole in the gunmount pulpit is made to order
for this sail rig. Reference: “Rethinking the Spinnaker” , Sailing
World, January, 1994 Herm

If it’s the original then I would
try http://www.marinedieseldirect.com/
I have had great experiences with this company. Only issue is who they can
sell to since Yanmar market is territorial. I am in PA so they can sell to
me. Strange! For a 2GM20F the part # is 123482-91291.

On the subject of marinedieseldirect, if you call them they say they can’t sell to you because of territory. If you order over the internet, no problem. I live in Calif. well outside of their territory. Parts were shipped promply.
If you are looking for Racor replacment filters, try marinefilters.com. About half the price of WM.
I have no interest with either company. Just passing along good experience with both.

regards

van
