The problems were in a few areas. The
basic dorade ventilation was not a problem although there wasn’t as much
airflow as expected it didn’t leak much unless a wave hit it (but in
those conditions I usually had it fully secured to prevent water ingress.
Here are the problems I had:
Delivery
was delayed several times for several months due to manufacturing problems
where they seemed to have trouble making it properly. To their credit they
caught whatever problems there were and didn’t ship to me. On the
other hand they didn’t keep me informed and they escalate the
priority just waited for the next orders I guess.
When
it arrived the dimensions were not what I expected. The hatch was a half
inch smaller then my opening. They explained they measure them differently
then the other hatches. Note that I had not only ordered a specific size
but also went over my opening dimensions on the phone with them prior to
ordering. I ended up living with it.
I
bought their hatch shade that attaches to it. It was almost impossible to
install and easy to break . It never worked. When I called they said yeah
its difficult.
The
overall construction did not impress me for true offshore use.
After
2 seasons one of the hatch supports twisted and the support pin broke (not
from stepping on it, looks like the pin just slid part way out which
allowed the support to twist so when I closed the hatch…).
The
twist locks on the supports are much harder to operate and less secure
then my other hatches.
Good idea, poorly executed.

bomar hatches
Alan,
The SeaBreeze hatches always seemed like a good idea and PS liked
them. Obviously you thought so, too, when you bought it! So how does
it not work? No good on the foredeck but might work in a place with
less water? Or just doesn’t flow as much air as expected?
Thx,
dge

I replaced all of my original F-33 hatches. They were crazed and

On all but the forward hatch I used Manship (mostly double opening)
ss
hatches. They are terrific and custom sizes cost almost the same as
standard
sizes (very expensive to begin with).
On the forward hatch I used a Bomar Seabreeze offshore series since
it has
a design that at a certain setting works as a dorade. I would
strongly
recommend against this hatch and wish I had not purchased it for a
variety
of reasons. Just FYI.

Michel, our reply was, more or less, on point.
I wan’t seeking advice regarding my diet, nor advice of how to make
the lens stronger. I wanted to alert other owners of such incredible
junk, and I wanted to find out if others went through the same
thing.
It continually amazes me how a lot of people buy put up with such
shoddy stuff, as evidenced by the replies I got to this.

I had always considered Bomar hatches to be flimsy. I had

I wonder what other F 33 owners have experienced in that regard?
