Boom Vang / Kicker Rod

Posted by Nhat Khong (nhatkhong1@…>)

Hello,

I’m considering buying a Freedom 36’. But never sailed one and dont
know much about its configuration. Can someone help me answer these
questions?

  1. The boat I looked at had a boom vang/kicker rod in place is a
topping lift configuration. Is this original, and has anyone had any
problem with a similar boom vang/kicker rod configuration?

  2. Can the self tending jib be replaced with a roller furling self
    tending jib?

Thanks,
-Nat

Nat:

I don’t believe that rigid boom vangs were standard. When they’ve been added, it is not uncommon to discontinue use of the topping lift.

I’ll have to defer to others on your second question.
