Does anyone have and installed the Garhauer boom vang? I just got mine without any instructions. I am sure its as simple as install collar around base of mast attach vang and mark where it meets the level boom and drill holes and screw the screw in! Did I leave anything out?

You’ve got the basics, but I would call Mark Garhauer for additional info. They are very helpfull. I would just add that the boom fitting should fit the curve of the boom. If not Garhauer can provide or modify so it does. Also, be sure to drill and tap the fitting and not use sheet metal screws.
Good luck, its a great piece of hardware.

As
I recall, Tim’s directions were far more useful than the limited
directions I received from Garhauer. The most important point: do not
attach to the boom while it is horizontal.

You
don’t have to, but if you do use something very thin or you will change
the circumference of the mast enough so that the collar may not fit properly.

I thought the collar came with a rubber liner. Again, Iwould ask Mark about this. I have a 39 Express and purchased two vangs from Garhauer some years ago. I did not use the collar as I had devised 6" high rubber seal at the deck level to really keep water out. Somewhere on the old site I beleave I describe same with pictures. I’ll look for it and repost. What I did do was design a SS fitting in colaboration with Mark Garhauer that fits the existing 3/4"thick aluminum bail at the mast collar and attaches to the mast end of the vang. Mark fabricated this custom piece for me.----- Original Message -----From: Bob Weeks Date: Wednesday, April 16, 2008 7:31 pmSubject: RE: [FreedomOwnersGroup] Boom VangTo: FreedomOwnersGroup@yahoogroups.com> do you need to put any kind of thin rubber material between the > collar and> the mast?> > Bob> > _____ > > From: FreedomOwnersGroup@yahoogroups.com> [mailto:FreedomOwnersGroup@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of> jlittle@…> Sent: Tuesday, April 15, 2008 11:17 PM> To: FreedomOwnersGroup@yahoogroups.com> Subject: Re: [FreedomOwnersGroup] Boom Vang> > > > > You’ve got the basics, but I would call Mark Garhauer for > additional info.> They are very helpfull.
