CamberSpar Parts

Posted by bballgrump (mevans@…>)

Good Morning Group

Am sure no one has ever done this before, but while putting my Freedom
30 to sleep for the winter, I dropped the stainless steel hank that
holds the shaft to the forestay overboard. Just hate it when you hear
that splash sound.

Is there a supplier of Camberspar parts out there.

Thanks for the help

Used to be available directly from Freedom (don’t ask how I know).

Hi Mark,
You have done what most of us have done at least once. I
believe what you have dropped is called the retainer clip. They are
avaliable from Dave Bierig, the sailmaker/creator of the
camberspar. Dave is at 814-459-8001. When I lost mine, he sent me a
new one with a bill which I paid right away.
Good luck

And the reason there is a small hole on the fitting is to tie a small piece of
line to it so you don’t lose it again. Guess how I know that.

Absolutely- you’ll find a small cotter/split ring works fine- less friction
than a line.

We also find an electrical tie works really well. Ours is red to
remind us.

Let
me clarify. I use the hole to attach a small piece of line when I am
removing or installing the camberspar. I’ve found that that is when
it likes to take a dive.

There is a trick I learn in the short time I have own my F30 and reading all
about the people dropping them overboard. Your local fishing shop will have a
stainless steel leader usually used for big fish such as marlin, etc. They come
in various length with snap clips on each end or loops. Attach one end to the
hole on the device we keep dropping overboard (offficial name??) and attach the
other end around the forestay. I have had mine off due the problems with the
length of the camberspar at least 15 time in two months and its still there!
