Jim:
While I’ve not had your particular problem, I will offer two ideas, both
involve Raritan KO:
- Try saturating the fabric in the space behind the seat cushions with KO.
You may find the odor is lingering in the fabric.
- Drill/cut holes into the inaccessible areas large enough to get a spray
nozzle in there and spray the areas with, you guessed it, KO. Depending on
where you put the holes and how big they are you may want to install access
ports in them to improve appearance. Use a garden sprayer to do the
spraying, you can get the small diameter wand into a lot of places through a
small hole.
In case you are wondering, I don’t own stock in Raritan or any marine supply
business. They just make a good product.

Subject: [freedomyachts2003] Clarification of Odor Problem - Specific Area -
Not General Areas
\
I really do appreciate everyone’s feedback. I need to clarify my post
from last weekend about boat odors. My concern was and remains the
unique areas that are physically inaccessable, not the general boat
odors of the various systems that many of you have responded about. I
have already dealt with all of that stuff. I have all new plumbing,
new tanks (water and holding), new cabin headliners, new head and
etc.
However, what I am concerned about is an isolated area on the boat
where a strong, pungent odor is eminating - it’s on the starboard
portion of the F36/F38 where it is physically impossible to reach
some areas that are hidden between the cabin liner and the hull. You
cannot smell it until you remove the seatback cushions on the
starboard side - then the odor will knock your socks off. It’s
somewhere under the nav station, hanging locker or aft berth lockers.
My original post was an inquiry as to whether anyone had devised a
clever, ingenious way of treating these inaccessable areas which
harbor lots of nasty odors and other bad things. Ozone is not an
option for this owner. Thanks, Jim F>
