I would like to convert to AGMs on my Freedom 38 and would like to
upgrade to a BALMAR 100 AMP Alternator and a multistage regulator.
The boat has a 3GM30FYeu engine at 27hp. I measured the belt and it
appears to be 1/2 inch which surprised me since I thought it would be
3/8 inch which would allow only a 70 AMP alternator.
I plan on 3 AGMs for house, one starting battery and a Gel battery for
my windlass connected by a Echocharger which allows for adjustment in
voltage. Is 100 Amps to much for this engine? Any other recommendations?
I haqve a '94 F35, and a Yanmar 3gm30f. We went from a 55 amp Hitatchi alternator to a 110 amp Balmar, added a third house battery, echo charger, multi-step voltage regulator. So far, it was the right thing to do. Also added a Xantrax monitor- wonderful!
