Cost to unstep & step mast?

Posted by Nick Piediscalzi (nickpied@…>)

I got a quote from a boatyard in Marina del Rey, CA for unstepping and
stepping my 1988 F36 mast for $1,150.

Is this a reasonable price? Seems a bit high to me…

Thanks!

You’re in Marina Del Rey. That’s why it’s so high.

C’mon up to Oregon. We could get that done somewhere like Astoria for
a couple of hundred bucks.

What does the whole job entail? Are they storing the mast for the winter too? Here in Dartmouth, MA (Padanaram Village) my F36 mast is unsteped and laid on supports that I supply for $125. Another $125 gets it resteped in the spring.

I had a quote from another local yard (Concordia) to unstep, store and restep for $2,000. That includes them bringing the boat in and putting it back on the mooring.

A little excessive. $200.00 in and out in NYC. Of course, I set the
wedges and do all the necc. The yard only lifts and sets.

I believe at my yard they charge $7/foot
of boat length for stepping or unstepping. Storage is extra. Its included in
the price if you do inside winter storage of the boat and its free if they have
to unstep to do winter work in their shop. I’m in the northeast.

Re: mast removal. It would be cheaper for you to hire your own crane /cherry picker . In S.E. Fl , 200$ is the norm and includes yard’s workers/watchers in DIY if you want yard. At our YC we charge non members 25 $ for use of crane. Takes 20 mins. Upper NY 5 $ to 7 $ per foot of mast . Andre. Nick Piediscalzi <nickpied@…> wrote: I got a
