I remember that months (years?) ago there was a message about someone
who made a stainles “bit” that fits into a winch to be driven with a
cordless drill.
Now, I need one, and I cannot find the reference (probably because I
cannot think of any word except “bit”). Can anyone help?

The measurement across the flats for a winch bit is 17 mm. You can find 17
mm brass, aluminum or Stainless on the net. I drilled a hole in the piece for
a short segment of hex stock, pinned it in place, and had a bit to use in my
Milwaukee right angle drill. The winch handles are octagonal, but are 17 mm
across the flats. You only need 4 bearing points. Or,ypou could buy one
ready made ,also on the net.
