Engine Venting Question

Posted by Rick Higgens (higgens@…>)

Hello all, On my F-30, I have noticed when at the end of a motoring
period prior to anchoring, there are some pretty strong engine
“smells” in the aft cabin area. It got me to thinking about the need
for an exhaust fan/vent to pull that out of the engine box to the
outside. I’m guessing my thoughts are not original. Has anyone made
any modifications in this area? I’d like to know where you pull from
and where you vented to, and any other info. Thanks…

I’d be more concerned about the cause of those “strong” smells. Perhaps
you’ve got some issues with blowby.

I agree with Dave; are you sure your exhaust isn’t leaking?

for ventilation of the engine compartment, I have two cowl vents on
the outer corners of the transom. One cowl always looks forward, the
other always astern.

Another solution for ventilation are two solar vents instead of cowl
vents. It depends on what kind of profile you want on your transom.
