I’m replacing all the 21 year old 3" galvanized elbows and fittings on
my 39 Express with fiberglass. I can see but have not crawled in far
enough to see how the 45 at the hull connects to the rubber and
stainless on the exterier of the hull.
Anyone know how that piece is fitted.

I have no idea whether the 39 and my 30 had the same system, but since I just replaced mine, I can tell you what I found. The transom exhaust fitting on the 30 is a Vetus unit made of rubber with a stainless trim ring on the outside. Inside the hull, a piece of galvanized steel that was really too big was jammed into the back of the rubber fitting (and hose clamped). A 90 degree fitting was screwed to that and a straight piece of pipe was fitted into that. The exhaust hose was clamped to that piece of straight pipe.

Thanks for the reply. I seem to have the same setup.

John:
If that’s the case, Vetus makes a very nice stainless transom exhaust fitting which directly accepts the appropriate size hose on the inside section. If you need to make a 90 degree turn inside the transom, Vetus also makes some plastic fittings that will do that.
