The chain locker (forward of the v-berth) on my fairly recently
acquired 1982 F-33 seems not to drain at all. Should it drain to the
bilge? Where was the chain locker drain originally located on the
F-33? Or was there one?
Thanks.

I don’t recollect where it is,but there is one. It does drain into the bilge
via the under bunk locker.Hint-. pour some water in there .see where it
flows to,and I’ll bet it finds it for you. I can’t get aboard now( well
tarped over),but will look when I can. BTW,what is your hull #(I’m #68).

On my F-33 Hull # 51 the drainage is at the aft end near the v-
berth. It drains down into the area under (not through) the vberth
storage area and then through drainholes in all dividers/bulkheads
to the bilge sump.
The area directly under the mast step has a low point that does not
drain well and accumulates a little water occassionally but is very
hard to get at with the masts in.

Jerome,
That’s the problem. Fresh water 2 inches deep simply does not drain. Of course the fact that the previous owner sold the boat to us with an inch or so of packed mud in the chain locker is not helping. We did dig that out. So far, we have yet to find the drain to be able to clean it out.

As far as I know there isn’t any. Mud collects around the mast base,
the water seeps down to the under mast area, which is indeed hard to
get at. I use a small manual engine-oil pump with a long thin tube
at the sucking end to pump out this area. I also had a tarp-cover
made for the windlass which also covers the chain hawsepipe. This
prevents rain from running down.

Thanks, Mike.
The manual engine-oil pump sounds like a good idea.
