F 45 performance

Posted by sailorray4493 (ray.wolf@…>)

I am considering buying a 1991 freedom 45, with shoal draft (I live
on west coast of Florida) but one of my brokers tells me the freedom
will not go to wind well at all, is he right, or just trying to sell
another boat

would anyone share their overall sailing experiencees with this boat
with me?

thanks for you input

you might read the article at this link:

The 45 has a ‘sloop’ rig, and while it’s not a J-120, I have to
imagine that it’s a better upwind performer than a comparably sized
Catalina or Beneteau. The only potential downfall I see is that there
is a fair amount of freeboard up at the bow, which could increase
windage. If you’re planning to race regularly, you can probably do
better, but it should be a great boat for you.

btw, checking some of the 42’ - 48’ PHRF ratings from
http://www.phrfne.org/baseh.htm

puts the F45 pretty much smack in the middle of performance. not as
good as a hinckley 44, but better than a catalina 46…
