The reef line goes to the hook and block, by the mast, the other end
is a knot at the end of the boom, is the knot the correct
configuration or should there be a hook to pull on the grommet on
the leech of the sail?
the reef line should loop through the grommet on the leech of the sail

I tie the end of the line(s) for both my 1st and 2nd reefing lines into the sail grommets, seems to work just fine. You want to make sure when you release the lines (when de-rigging) to tie stopper knots back into them, that way they won’t be pulled into the boom.

Okay, you loop it through the grommet and tie it to? or just make a
knot which is what I did, I read the commissioning instructions and
it just says to make a knot after it comes out of the boom.

Whether it is due to being the wrong side of the Atlantic, or having an Apple
computer, or what, I didn’t get the attachment you posted. Would you be so kind
as
to send it to me by e-mail, please? I have recently aquired a Freedom 21 (UK
version,
with lifting wing keels), and any information will be useful as it has not been
rigged
or sailed for some time, and certainly never by me. It looks a bit different
from our
cat ketch!
Do you, (or anyone else) know of a Freedom 21 ‘user group’ and website?
