Greetings,
I have been browsing the internet looking to buy a Freedom 25. I
have seen several photos of different boats spanning the years from
1982 to 1984. It appears that the interiors of these boats differ
depending on the year. Specifically the 1982 boats seem to have a
lighter colored trim than the other years (Oak?). It is difficult to
tell from pictures only but I would love to hear anything that the F25
owners have to say about differences in interior build quality and
construction type based on model year. It also seems that the
portlight configuration changed at some point. If anyone knows of
other differences (mast change being an obvious one) your opinion
would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Travis

Travis, Earlier boats had more wood in them and was light coloured. My 1984 F25 " Scaramanga " has teak trim , shelves and bulkheads. Easier to clean but not as pretty. I sanded all the teak and covered it with 4 coats of wipe on Poly, the best stuff of all. I have tried almost all finnishes. Four of the six ports are opening. The wing mast is more efficient but step and bearings make it more complicated and pone leaking at deck . You must also use running back stays off the wind because of the narrow width of the mast. There were breakages on these. However, to make up for the performance disadvatage the round mast boats have a mast 1 foot taller and a 1 foot longer boom. Diesel powered boats are worth significantly more. Perhaps 3 to 5 K $ more. Range is about 225 miles on 10 gals. Improtant if you cruise less if you stay around home port. Outboard boats have more
interior room and less drag under sail specially in very light air. Some sailors hate the looks of an outboard sticking out from the stern. I have had both and my 2 Yanmars are no more maintenance than my outboard motors. The alternators on outboards are very low amperage. Important only if you are considering refridgeration, such as an Engle portable. Andre.Travis Lau <travis_lau@…> wrote: Greetings,I have been browsing the internet looking to buy a Freedom 25. The dominant (solid) wood trim on the earlier (1982) 25s was Ash,
with luan plywood used where it didn’t show (under and behind the
seat and bunk cushions). Herm
