We had a successful trip south to Florida from Connecticut in our F30
NARISA. But learned that she needs another (higher) set of reef
points. Anything over 22 kn. gusting 28 going to weather is a bit over
powering with the second set of reefs tied in tight, sail as flat
(outhauled) as possible. Off the wind, under the same conditions, the
double reef is about right…she flies at 7 to 8 knots and is still
controllable. But she (or my nerves) needs less power with the gust
over 30…
I don’t want to go further offshore until I can depower the main
further. Where should the third set of reef points be located? How
does one deal with the headboard loads on the track (two slides or
just one is enough)?
Thanks to all for help on all issues as we traveled south. Relaxing a
bit about the mast step “clank” but will try to resolve soon.

Ps. The ArmorAll wipe idea, as modified by us with a keyring insert,
worked very well. We added silicone spray about every other hoisting.
Main falls straight down every time…so very important in heavy
weather (who wants to be standing on the cabin top, clutching a very
big slippery mast, trying to pull the main down?)
