F30 - Two Questions

Posted by Bob (rweeks6508@…>)

  1. the engine throttle and transmission shifter. How do you get the chrome cover off the shifter so I can take the whole unit out? I can pull the handle out of the chrome piece rather easy and the disengage transmission knob screws out easily also but that is where easy stops! Now to get the cover off any ideas?2. On the f-30 water on the deck accumulates by the forward area of the cockpit. It does not drain aft. And if it did then it would hit the 1/4" high teak piece across the back. I an only to chisle out a small canal next to the cleat to give it a opening overboard but not sure what to do about the puddling on either side of the cockpit.Bob

Bob,

Have no suggestion for #1. On #2, the F36 has the same issue. I drilled 1/4" holes in the vert. part of the toe rail as low as possible. That allowed most water to drain. The remainder would evaporate. This is one design flaw of freedoms. At least they were consistent across all products.

Van

Did you have to coat the hole with
anything?

About number 2, I saw an older Irwin that had a depressed area at the
lowest part of the deck to permit water to escape UNDER the aluminum
toe rail. Too bad T-P didn’t do this too.

Ok I reread what you wrote and I
misunderstood. I thought you drilled a hole under the toe rail. The problem
is the toe rail is close to 3/8 thick so it dams quite a bit of water. And yes
your drilled hole would drain the water to the level of the thickness of the
toe rail and I guess you could take dremel tool and grind a small channel to
the hole even grind the hole further down. Â Â I guess during the warm period it
not going to sit there very long anyway.

Bob,

Yes I did use the drill to make a small channel, but my toe rail was not 3/8 thick. I would guess more like 1/8" on the flat part that bolts the the deck.

Well I am not a youngster so my memory is
not what it use to be but I thought it was thicker then 1/8” it’s a pretty sturdy

Lola,
I helped, but not eliminated, this
condition by using a smallish rat-tail file to
cut a low spot on the bottom of the oblong holes
in the aluminum toe rail. I did this near the
cockpit by observing where the water accumulation
was deepest; i.e. the lowest spot on the sheer curve. Herm
