F32 prop clearance

Posted by merrick white (r__merrick_white@…>)

I have replaced my diesel with an electric motor on my 1984 F32. I now
want to install a 15.5" Kiwi 3 blade composite prop if it will fit. The
Kiwi web site says only 1 inch of clearance is necessary.

Unfortunately my boat currently sits in rather frigid water, precluding
my taking a measurement. Does anyone know the shaft to hull measurement
for the F32 or can you tell me the biggest prop you have installed?

Thanks,
Merrick White

Rule of thumb is 20% clearance of the dia
of the prop. When the water warms would like
to hear more details of your ele. motor install
and how it all worked out. Interesting project.

van

Hi Merrick,
If no one knows, I’ll go over and measure mine for you.
I’d be interested in learning more about your conversion. Is this a
diesel electric combo, with the electric motor running off of a
diesel generator? I’d also be interested in hearing about your
experience with the new setup.

Thanks Thomas,

I am running off 8 Group 31 AGM batteries with a Zivan smart charger.
I will be adding solar panels to the davits this summer.

Hi Merrick,

Did you ever get and answer to your original question? Your electric
conversion is interesting but I’d really like to hear what Kiwi says
about fitting their propeller. Sorry, this time of year the water is
too cold for me, too, or I’d jump in and measure mine.

FWIW: My guess is a 15.5" propeller, if it fits, would be awfully
close to the boat bottom, clearing by less than an inch, maybe. I
have a 14" prop (nominal, I never actually measured it.) From memory,
I’d guess it clears the bottom by something around 1 1/2 inches. A
15.5 inch propeller; there SHOULD be room but it’s is gonna be
close…

If you talk to Kiwi, I’d be interested in what they say. If you
would, post anything you find out from them or anything you figure
out about fitting one of their props on an F32.

Thanks,

Rick

Check on the Kiwi Prop web site, they have
a table of props versus what boats they were installed on. Note the kiwi can
have less clearance room due to design of the prop tip.
