F32 water in head sink

Posted by msheehan1 (msheehan1@…>)

When I am on my port tack I am seeing water come up through the drain
pipe on the head sink. Does the head sink drain to the bilge? The
water smells like fresh water also, but I am not sure. Any ideas
where the water is coming from?

Ours drains out through the seacock amidships at the bottom of the companionway used by the galley sink. Do you close this seacock when you’re sailing? If you lay it over hard enough, the sink could be close to the waterline.

The head is to starboard - correct? The sink drain discharges just
at the water line on the starboard side - just below the sink. There
is a valve there to shut the drain for times like these when water starts
to come in due to healing and seas. NO Worries - close the drain
when the winds is up - and tell your crew, so they can open it to wash
their hands. You’ll find the same set-up on the sink in the galley
(if you have one - you don’t sate the size / model of boat) - if you close
the one to starboard, might as well close the one to port also. - Andy

On my F40 CK this is also a problem. the galley sink (which is
nearly on centerline) and the head sink (well to port) empty through
the same through-hull. There is a gate valve under the head sink
that I close when sailing. I’ve never had a problem with the galley
sink.
