Two weeks ago in 28Kts and 7 foot seas my CF main mast broke at the
bridle point 7.5 feet above the deck. The mast was made in 1980 by
Tilotson and Pearson USA. Are they still being made in the States? If
not I will need technical information on CF lay-up and methods to
have a replacement made here in UK. I also need engineering drawings
for the mast cap and swivel arm. Can anyone help?

Sorry to hear that your mast broke; although I have alu masts on my
UK built F33/35 CK I’d be interested to learn what the cause was. As
far as I know you can have a new Freedom mast from Carbospars in
Southampton. I’m not sure whether they still can make these; I last
asked them in 1998 for a quote. I was so shocked by the price that I
decided not to replace my otherwise fine alu masts.

I also have a F33 and are interested in this kind of events to take actions to avoid the same.
A couple of months ago Frank Minelli myslo@… told us the story of the event that led to his mast being broken and how he replaced it with an aluminum one, with which by the way he was apparently very pleased so far.
He might be able to help you.
Let us know a bit more of the event that led your mast to brake up.
