F33 main wishbone

Posted by Frank (myslo@…>)

When I lost my mainrig back in 97, I had no choice but to replace
the wishbone with a conventional boom. I wish I had my wishbone
back… anyone have any ideas where I might find one? (used, not new)

Hey Frank: You can’t have my 33cat ketch wishbone but I am
interested to know why you think the wishbone is better… I am
quite happy with this system but often wondered if a conventional
rig had any advantages??

HI, well, like so many things, it is a trade off. What I miss most is the fact that when running in big seas, the wishbone , even when fully boomed out is no big threat as far as dipping the end into the sea is concerned, whereas the present, straight conventional boom can be quite a hazard. Then, also, we will have the mizzen wishbone, and from an aestetic standpoint, it woould be much nicer if they were the same.
Is there a clear cut advantage speaking for the conventional boom? Sure, striking and furling that big sail is much easier with the conventional boom, but that also can be overcome on the wishbone by configuring the furling system as they do on the Nonsuch.

Hope that helps.a1john2003 <a1john2003@…> wrote:
