F36/F38 (and other models) Stern Pulpit and Mounting Dinghy Outboard Engine

Posted by jaf177b6 (jfarrell@…>)

My 1987 F38 (and perhaps other Freedom models) has a stern pulpit
which is not well designed or suited for carrying one’s dinghy
outboard engine on the typical outboard engine mount which bolts to
the stern pulpit stanchion. My 8hp Johnson weighs proabably 60-70
lbs. When the engine is stored on the outboard mount, the whole stern
pulpit is very “wobbly”. It’s pretty scary. What have you crusiers
done to solve this problem? Thanks - Jim F.

I don’t know if this will work for you, but I installed a Garelick,
Model # 71078 Stationary motor mount, http://www.garelick.com/# on
my F36, adjacent to the helm seat. It required modifying the bracket
by shortening the base legs. Works great. Rock solid, takes the
weight off the pushpit, and removes an obstruction. I combined this
with a Forespar Motor Crane. Perfect combination. A real back saver.
I’ll post a photo tomorrow.
