Hi folks,
has anyone undertaken replacing the salon and V-berth deck hatches? If
so, what manufacturer did you go with? Is there a good drop-in
replacement, and if so, what size was it? Flanged or flat?
I’ve already looked at having them reglazed, but there are some broken
hardware issues as well.
Thanks,
Lance

I don’t have a 40 so I can’t comment specifically. On my 33 I replaced the large front hatch with a Bomar Seabreeze Offshore hatch. This has two gaskets so you can leave it partially open and it acts somewhat like a dorade. I’m not that impressed with the ruggedness of it (and the dimensions they provided were actually wrong) so my other 3 hatches I am replacing with manship stainless steel hatches from Mariners Hardware (they arrive next week) . They can make any size custom and there is no real cost difference from their standard sizes. I looked them over at a show and they are quite rugged. I got two double opening and one single. All mine were flat although the original hatches were flanged.

The original hatches are Goiot (French)…mine are anyway.
You should be able to have them reglazed locally (maybe without even
removing them from the boat).
It might take some doing…and some importation issues, but I bet
you can get any needed parts for your “hardware issues” from Goiot.
These hatches are cast aluminum, and of high quality.
