forestay, genniker, etc.

Hi George -

Thanks for the response and shared experience. I used my jib as an un-hanked sail for the broad reach we were on. Gave me an extra knot.

I noticed your reference to a genniker. This winter, I am leaving Destiny with Paul Dennis so he can put on running back stays (to cut down on the forestay jerking from wave action and give me counter support for a light air head sail), with a new mast box having two main halyards and a forward facing halyard for some kind of genniker or drifter. We will cruise north in September.

I have not settled on a genniker/drifter design – and won’t until I have spoken with guys like you and maybe Doyle sails.

Meanwhile, if you don’t mind…

Do you have a full head stay/bow sprit (and furling jib?), or the original 2/3 arrangement for the self-tending camber spar? If you have the camber spar and short rig, do you also have a halyard from the mast head for the genniker or do you use the 2/3 rig jib halyard and go with a smaller genniker?

What are the dimensions of yours and what is the halyard and sheet arrangement you came up with?

Who designed and fabricated your genniker? What weight fabric did you go with?

Thanks in advance if it is not too much trouble. Maybe phone would be better for you??
