The boom vang on my round aluminium masted F25 currently has a 4:1
purchase. It has been suggested that a 6:1 may make life easier when
setting the vang and as a bonus, ease the pressure on the mast fitting
(I’ve broken two of these in the last year as the rig has sheered
the “U” bolt out of the mast fitting).
What is the “normal” vang purchase for an F25 and has anyone upgraded
to a 6:1 ratio (or higher) and if “yes” what are the pros/cons of this?
Grateful for any help/guidance.

The first section of the Harken catalog shows many examples of how to
add/improve rigging. The vang section shows a simple method to double
the purchase of your existing vang. Good luck. PS If you’ve broken two
fittings, something is wrong with the setup of your attachments.
Possibly a defective design; or an unusual twist??? The vang on the
carbon fiber F25 is attached to a strong eye, with a backing plate,
attached to the deck immediately behind the mast. If you use the Harken
rig, you could attach the block and tackle to the deck, and the
doubling block to the mast, giving two attachment points.

Thanks for your reply and pointing me in the right direction.
In answer to your remarks “yes” there was defective design (poor spot
welding) allied to an unnatural twist - out and up since the “U” bolt
was parallel to the deck and not vertically mounted on the backing
plate.
I’ve redesigned the fitting and will try to post a photo on this BB.
