Looking at a couple of F-28’s 1987 & 1988. I currently have a Hunter
22 and looking to go up to a 28-30 foot boat. I single hand or sail
with the family often (admiral and kids age 7 & 10) What are the plus
and minus of Freedom boats. Living in RI they are made right up the
road.

Well, around here you’ll hear mostly the pluses! I own one of the 28s for
sale up here, Jabberwocky, at Lawson’s in Hingham. We had owned a Gary Mull
Ranger 23 and thought it appropriate to move up to his Freedom 28. It was a
fine choice and we cruised it around New England for seven years. The three
big assets of the Freedoms as I see them are good design, quality
construction and easy, powerful sailing.

I single hand a lot and Dave is absoultely right, you get a lively
high quality boat that is very easy to sail. Its also a boat you can
be proud of, the lines are beautiful and the builder has a great
reputation.

I have an 87 Mull 28 hull number 2. Super
boat. Excellent quality, very stout, everything is over engineered. Safe,
stiff, and surprisingly fast, especially off the wind. But don’t believe
the bunk about Freedom’s won’t point, they will. Also, the masts
are bullet proof, carbon fiber is well proven now and the original masts were
very well made. Balsa cored hull and deck needs checking by a qualified
surveyor, but Freedom quality means probably that you won’t have any
problems. The 28 has the room of most 30’s, and the cabins are beautiful.
Also everything you will ever want to know about these boats are available on
or through the Freedom owners site. A very helpful group of committed Freedom
owners. Good luck with your hunt.

Hello Douglas. Last Fall, Masthead used sails had a new/like new F28
Haastick main for sale. I now have 2 F25s, so maybe some day I’ll
sell them, and move up to a F28. Happy Sailing. Charlie on Mobile

My wife and I presently own an old Crocker raised deck sloop.
We’re interested in buying a freedom 28. Are there any special
concerns we should have? Also, does anyone know of any boats for sale
in new england?

I believe I saw an F-28 for sale on Lake Champlain. Should be listed on boats.com. If you
have trouble finding it let me know.
I have an F-33. The cat ketch is a great
rig.
