Freedom 32 parts

Posted by merrick1952 (merrick1952@…>)

I just purchased a Freedom 32 and will take delivery in a few weeks.
Can anyone point me towards parts vendors?

The first things I will need are mast wedges, a Yanmar manual, and a
working head. I did download the manual that was pointed to from
this site.

Thanks from a newbie…

Yanmar manuals are available from the
Yanmar dealer in your city. They will have to order it probably from the local
distributor. The distributor will only refer you back to the dealer in my
experience.

Merrick- the best way to do the mast is with the Spartite system,
available from any marine supplier (WEST marine, Defender, your
boatyard. If you are uncomfortable doing it have the boatyard’s
rigger do it for you. This is the accepted way nowadays. You already
know where to get the Yanmar manual. The head- many use a Vacuflush
head, expensive, but conserves holding tank space due to small
volume of water used. Otherwise I just replaced the original Groco
(I don’t like Groco products) with a Raritan PH II which is a nice
head for about $300. Installation is pretty easy. I had to cut an
inspection port hole to get the nuts off the bolts holding the head.
Just put a standard deck plate/inspection port in. Other heads are
available from around $100.

You can buy engine parts and Yanmar manuals on-line from
marinedieseldirect.com, if you live in Torresen Marine’s Yanmar
territory. Having just bought a Freedom 30, I ordered the Yanmar
manual from them and was surprised at how little there was in it. I
have found their prices to be better than other Yanmar distributors.
As to other marine parts, the best prices are usually on the web,
although not always at the same place. Some sites I’ve used recently
include sailnet.com, boatfix.com, brokenlegdave.com (for
electronics), and sailboatstuff.com. Also, West Marine has a “low
price guarantee;” if you show them an ad or web page for a product
they carry, they claim they’ll match the price plus shipping. I’ve
never tried this, but I plan to.

Good luck.

You can get to the hold-down nuts for the head through the aft
stateroom. At the base of the wall dividing the head and cockpit
locker from the stateroom, right at the cabin sole, just in front of
the bunk, there’s a piece of teak baseboard trim running fore and
aft. It fits so nicely it looks like it’s permanent but it comes off
easily. Take out the 2 screws and pop the trim piece off. There will
be a hole to reach your arm in under the raised area of the toilet
base and get at the nuts.
