Freedom 32 sails

Posted by papabenn (papabenn@…>)

Sea Fox is now on a mooring in Dutch Harbor, Jamestown, R.I. My jib is
in pretty tough shape and I am looking for either a used one or
recommendations for a sailmaker who is familiar with this sailto make
me a new one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Peter Bennett

Hi Peter

Dave Bierig invented the jib boom and is still making jibs in PA. He
can be reached at 814-459-8001.
You may have trouble finding a used Freedom 32 jib because of it’s uniqueness.
Good luck.

50 burrrrr…)

I found that the Haarstick price for sails
are double what others are asking for. Now if I was racing the boat it
may be a different story. I have a brand new main and a jib that is about
a year old and they are great!!! The main I got with the boat when I
bought it and it was not even out of the shipping box! So I ordered a UK jib so at
least it’s a matching set. Guess what I could not have asked for
any better service and the sail are 100% functional. Jib was $500 less
then Haastick’s price. So for $500 I am not sure what I would have
gotten from them that any different then the UKs. Same weight, same
accessories, same logo, same lugs, same color BUT different price!

And remember UK makes the sails for the charter fleet
thats down in the islands, some yacht club……

Here is the guys I used and I could not
have been happier with the service, guys name is Mark:

My original '86 Haarstick has a lot of life left in it. If you use
another sail maker make sure to get a quote for a sail built to the
same quality and weight.

I agree 100% but at my age I will be dead before the first seam pops on any sail I buy! But fortunately I have a brand new set of sails plus the older set which I may clean up and sell eventually. The main is still in very good shape, got me from Ft Myers to Rock Hall, off shore and plus a couple of storms.BobOn Fri, Jun 6, 2008 at 7:17 AM, Medium Al wrote:My original '86 Haarstick has a lot of life left in it. I’ll just add that no matter who builds your sails, make sure the loft
that is actually building them has experience with freestanding rigs,
as it does require a different cut than a stayed mast.

Lance Point taken. I did the research and found the following:Bitter End Yacht Club has a fleet of Freedom 30 Yachts fully equipped galley kitchen, two separate cabins, a head with shower and pressure water, diesel engine, and easy to sail rig. For Caribbean Yacht Charters, the Freedom yachts can accommodate two couples in separate cabins, or a family of six, using berths in the main salon. Freedom 30’s can be chartered by the day for US$ 100 daily.UK Sails has been supplying them with their sails for as many year as they have been in business I was told.So in talking with them I used their (BEYC) experience and UK’s experience and made my decision. Apparently the information I was given was
wrong or I miss understood that I was being told. This information is stating
that Harrstick supplied the sails. I am not in this forum to defend anyone’s
product or degraded it! My only point is that there are other options and that
over time technology changes for the better or worst. One has to keep an open
mind and what was good 10 years ago may not be the product of today or may be
the best since its time tested. So this is the last on sail vendors … I love
my sails and I got them at a reasonable price! So that everyone understands
there have been a lot of emails back and forth on this subject behind the
scenes. And as this forum has pointed and it works well … is everyone has an
opinion and experience.

Thanks everyone for all the help on sails. I have one bid from Mack
sails in Stuart FL and am getting bids from Doyle in Oriental NC, Dave

Now I am thoroughly embarrassed. Its
Doyle sails that I own for the Freedom not UK. I had UK sails on my
Impulse 21. I don’t know why I kept referring to UK. Sorry
about that

It would be very helpful if you could share the prices you
receive and the specifications of the sails.
