While I own a Hoyt F32 and I’m not
sure of the spinnaker differences between the F36 and the F32, here’s some
suggestions as it relates to the F32 gunmount spinnaker:

Do you have the retriever line attached to
the grommet in the center of the sail? (there’s also a little white
plastic ring at the middle of the foot tape that the retriever line should run
through.

Make sure you’re running dead before
the wind; square the yard; release the clew sheets, and while holding onto the
halyard (and letting it run through your hand), pull the retriever line that
should be running through the launch sleeve and into the cockpit. If it’s
not too windy and you get some practice, you can let go of the halyard instead
of letting it run through your hand, but don’t try it unless you’ve
had several douses under your belt, so the chute doesn’t end up wrapped
around the bow.

It’s best to have a second pair of
hands holding onto the halyard until you’re comfortable doing it singlehanded.

Raising the spinnaker is easier . .
. pull the clews out to the end of the pole as best you can; make sure
the retriever line is free to run through the launch sleeve; make sure you’re
running before the wind; square the yard; hoist the spinnaker.

Please DON’T follow these
suggestions if the F36 is different from the F32.

Once again – as it relates to an F32,
NOT an F36 to which I have no knowledge of . . .

Is it a long sleeve, approximately 20’
ft long?
If so it attaches to the trapezoid opening
of the bow pulpit at each corner from under the pulpit and behind the aft
pulpit tubing.
It ruins along the deck adjacent the toe
rail on the port side with the end of the sleeve tied to the toe rail.

If your douser bag is not a 20’ ft
sleeve, please disregard everything I’ve told you and await a response
from an F36 owner.

Thanks,
Milo

Note: when I state that the sleeve
attached from under the pulpit “and behind the aft pulpit tubing”,
I meant to say the back edge of the sleeve opening should be behind the tubing
so the retriever line rubs against the pulpit and not the Sunbrella material of
the sleeve opening.

The grommets along the length of the
sleeve should face down along the deck to allow water to exit.

Good luck

A few years ago I posted Gunmount spinnaker instructions I had
written for my then-girlfriend. The girl is long gone but the
instructions were re-posted here:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freedomyachts2003/message/454

They were actually written for my 32 but I’d guess that a 36 is
essentially identical.

Keep at it with the spinnaker. You’ll love it. Email me if you have
specific questions.
