Hi Wilf, et al,
A while back you posted something about a standard French spin-tapered
aluminum flagpole used as a mast for your boat—or somebody’s boat, or
it could be used. You said you were going to check the UK supplier. If
you checked and posted something, I missed it. If you haven’t, are you
still going to? At the moment I have my carbon fiber mast and am happy
with it. However, If I keep drinking beer, heeling the boat over and
going under the causeway at the lake, I’d like to know where I can get
another mast, one that won’t cost as much as a new boat.

I can’t
recommend Allen’s first reason for asking, but I too am interested in
knowing if anyone has found a supplier of unstayed aluminum spars.

Hi Patrick & Allen,
Yes I did post the write-up on http://freedom21.info/ regarding the dimensions & fittings on my UK built Freedom 21 aluminium mast and I also asked the UK agents for the French spin-tapered aluminium flagpole section to get me a price for a basic unit that could then be further worked-on by a Freedom 21 owner. Despite a number of reminder phone calls & emails they never got back to me! I guess I will have to “read the riot act” to these people and tell them that I have French engineering contacts who can locate the supplier for me and then perhaps I should tell the French supplier that their UK rep has no interest in selling the product? That may well command some response? I’ll do this & get back to you guys.

www.spunspar.com make the unstayed masts for Norwalk Island Sharpies
here in Australia. Maybe they have details of a source in the US.
I know I will be knocking on their door if my CF one decides to take a
dip.

Hi Nick,
I went to spunspar.com but only got to see a couple of pix. The other
photos, including the catalogue and misc. links were small boxes
with red Xs. Maybe some problem down under. I’ll try again
tomorrow.
