Frog Kiss wins solo race to Bermuda

I was down in St. George’s Bermuda, yesterday, where I met Tristan
Mouligne aboard the Freedom 44 Frog Kiss.
He’s won the first leg – the single-handed leg – of the Bermuda 1-2
race from Newport, Rhode Island.

His real time was 3 days, 15 hours 59 minutes…corrected under PHRF
to 2 days, 14 hours, 3 minutes, 15 seconds.
A good 8 hours ahead of the second place finisher! He also won his
class, of course. Fr

Tristan said he had to work very hard – wind constantly shifting,
but never on the nose.

Panacea, a Hoyt designed Freedom 32 sailed by Peter McCrea, sailed
into St. George’s while I was down there talking to Tristan.
Actual time for her was 4 days, 21 hours, 46 minutes, which was
corrected to 3 days, 13 hours, 8 minutes and 5 seconds. Panacea was
2nd in Class 4, and 18th overall on corrected time - there were 40
boats in the fleet.

The double-handed leg back to Newport starts next Friday, June 22.

Frog Kiss is still for sale, Tristan said.

Bad news from F44 Frog Kiss. I just read the following on
http://www.bermuda1-2.org/ :

• 23 JUNE 0900BDA - Tristan, Frog Kiss, called to say they were
withdrawing from the race. At 0600 today they lost one of their masts
and had to cut it away. He was going to meet up with his parents on
Frog Kiss2 and return to St. George, Bermuda. It was reported that
last night Frog Kiss was flying trying to make up the head start he
gave his class.
