My Freedom 35, 1993–on lowering mainsail today, the plate attaching
the boom to the mast completely separated–all of the bolts pulled out.
Was wondering if anyone had advice about the repair, or a similar
experience.

Had a similar issue on my F35. Solution was to drill out the holes to accept heli-coils which were then epoxied in place. After talking with Goetz, the mast manufacturer he said that some masts have an internal metal sleeve that is tapped but most were just tapped into the carbon fiber. I found a sleeve in my mast but it was not tapped and the mechanic doing the repair said that the original bolts were too long and bottomed out against the sleeve and he felt that they could not have been pulled up tight. So a bit shorter bolts and bed the gooseneck in 5200 and all has been well for the past 7 years.
