Ceramics are all the rage on cars these days and I’m seeing ceramic coatings for boat hulls advertised as well.
Anyone taken the plunge? If so how difficult was it, what did you use and do you have any advice to share?

I have used it on my Freedom 21 above the waterline. Very easy to use, spray on wipe off. I did not notice any improvement over regular wax.

Although I didn’t find any improvement in UV protection over regular wax on my F21. I have another case study. I also sail an international 2.4m keelboat, which I keep at my local sailing club (a fresh water reservoir). I do not antifoul the hull as it’s only kept on the water for a month or so before I retrieve and clean the bottom, so I just wax it. The last period I used a ceramic coating and although it did accumulate the usual slime, I noticed that it was significantly easier to remove. In case you haven’t seen a 2.4m boat, here is a video…
