Head raw water seacock removal

Posted by john reed (john-reed@…>)

Folks,

The seacock that provides raw water to the head has been very hard to
operate since we bought Sam 5 years ago. Servicing this valve has been on
our to-do list for quite some time and now, since we’re doing the ‘big
refit’, this valve’s overhaul was high on the list. I did a three-hour
lazarette dive today; one of the tasks was to remove this valve. I had
assumed that the through hull fitting ended in a male pipe thread and the
valve screwed onto it but there are no threads showing. It looks like the
valve has a flange which is about flush with the hull and even appears to be
bedded into it. Before I start applying 18 inch pipe wrenches to this guy,
I thought I’d ask the collective wisdom to enlighten us regarding the
mounting of this valve and the through hull. Is this one piece on will it
unscrew with enough brute force?

Thanks,

John and Karen Reed
