I recently rebedded leaking port lights on my Freedom 35. The plywood
panels had rotted, and are being replaced. What adhesive can I use to
reattatch the vinyl material to the 1/8" wood?
thanks,

Are you sure you really want to re-use the plywood and vinyl? The foam
backing is probably crumbled away or going to be soon. If you glue the
vinyl to plywood without foam backing, it will be very hard to get a
smooth surface. I threw everything out and replaced plywood and vinyl
with sheets of 4 mm foamed PVC. Does not rot, bends like plywood, not
expensive, soft matte finish. If you want to keep the plywood/vinyl
situation anyway, I would use a sprayable contact glue suitable for
foam. Upholsterers (cars and furniture) use it.
Good luck,
Michel

So you just used the foamed PVC as the
total replacement, no vinyl cover etc.? Since its only 8’ long where did
you butt up the halves in the middle?

Thanks for the tip, Michael. I will try the adhesive to vinyl for this season, or until I need more. Then I will investigate the foam PVC.
Where did you get it?
Thanks,
Lou

The surface of the foamed PVC looks very good; needs no further
covering, unless you want the soft feel of the vinyl. The sheets are
3 meters x 2 meters, so there are no butts. Just the teak battens
that were there already. I varnished them first.

Foamed PVC is used is the printing business to print large
billboards on. The thicker sizes are used in boatbuilding as a core
material in stead of balsa. It’s also used for interior building,
trade show stands and displays etc. A brandname used in the UK is
Palight. I don’t know an US brandname, but you should be able to
find it.

Dumb question:
Does this stuff float?? (proably). Could one cut this to shape to replace the
floor of an inflatable boat if you get a thich enough piece?? Have inflatable
floor that leaks. I already replaced it, but looking for alternatives for next
time.

Barb, Would be kind enough to share were you purchase this Sintra product.
Maybe Home Depot or Lowe’s?

Roger,
Sure can for whatever help it may be. I bought the Sintra at a
commercial Graphics Arts supply shop. They took three days to obtain
what I wanted from their distributor. Don’t think a retail outlet
such as Lowe’s or Home Depot would be likely to carry such a
specialty item.
