help: need advice about freedom 45 water heater

Posted by angiebera (angiebera@…>)

we are in a dilemma. our water heater just went and it looks like
it is the heating element that went to *&%$. the problem is that
there is no info on the maker of the water heater. this is all we
know:

9 amps
model #8446
1 KW for 110V AC
SS marine water heater (would this be the maker?)
12 gallons
horizontal outside shape and round on the inside

we are looking to replace the heating element and are having trouble
finding it. are we better off just replacing the entire water
heater unit?

i appreciate any help-thanks!!!

This may or may not help. My 1987 F-30 has a 6 gallon square ss hot water heater made by Atlantic Marine Products.

All that you need is a new element. Remove it to find the physical
size and go to your local hardware store/marine store and get
another that is the same amperage as current one.

Try someone like W. W. Grainger. They have almost everything. I have
gotten heating elements for my H2O heater there.

If you can’t find the element I’d get an on demand unit. The tank
ones are way too inefficient IMHO. I’d bring the element to some
appliance repair places and see if they can be of help. It’s not
really a “marine” item so any good appliance repair place may be able
to hook you up. Might even ask a plumber. The folks at FYI may be able
to tell you where they sourced the original unit.
