Just for kicks

Posted by crwindy@…> (crwindy@…>)

Let’s take a survey of who has and has not lost the piece to the camber spar
overboard.
I have once.
Anyone else want to chime in. I would like to hear from those who haven’t, and
how long they have had their boats.
Maybe we can then have a contest to see how long it woll take them to drop one.

I dropped mine in the very first time I tried to rig my newly
purchased Mull 28. Water around here (estuarian NC) is not too deep
(~ 6’) , but is the color of coffee; It’s dark down there. I now have
a lanyard attached to the little hole in the piece. Maybe there’s a
market for an upside-down umbrella-like device that would attach to
the bow to catch errant pieces of hardware. Herm

I have not lost my clip in 20 years of owning my F-30. Some close call
though.

Lost mine first time. Replacement had the hole in it and, with use of lanyard, have not lost it since.

Sounds like you belong in the lost one category.
Paul Dennis at Warren River Boatworks 401 245 6949 should have one, of search
the archives for the manufacturer.

Mine made a sprint for the water once but it chickened out right at
the toe rail.

I do know that my Muir anchor windlass is TOTALLY, COMPLETELY
WATERPROOF, though. How do you think I happen to know that?

I just joined the ranks of “those who have”. (First time after 3 years.)

It was inevitable because I was rigging the jib each time I went out -
it appears the camber spar piece eats away at jibstay wires.

If it is eating the jibstay wires, your camberspar may be too tight. They are adjustable.

What’s the condition of the sheave that’s present at the jibstay end
of the camberspar? At 11:15 AM 6/9/2007, you wrote:

You might want to contact Dave Bierig about your camberspar
problem (he invented it). I have no issues with my forestay or the
camberspar and you shouldn’t either. Dave’s phone number is: 814-459-8001.
Good luck.

I recommend calling Dave.

I just got my camberspar for my Freedom 32 (Hoyt) replaced by Dave.

He gave me a more sturdy, updated version. He is a bit of a character - a bit surly on the phone (Damn cruising sailors not cleaning things properly…). He was great, though. I had to prompt him once, and then it came wrapped in cardboard…hard to mistake what it was.

I have all new hardware (hence a spare for when I drop it over) and look forward to it finally working as promised.
