Does anyone trailer launch a fin keel F21. I am looking at a use done,
but berthing a boat in my area is pretty expensive. Also do we have any
owners in the SF bay area?

G’day, Paul.
My F21 is a shoal draft and I launch her myself with my 1998 Volvo
wagon. We have a special road/launching trailer made by Triad in
Connecticut. We’ve not had to use the extension tongue yet. If we
manage to also get a finkeel F21 then we certainly would have to use
the extension.
Question for you - if you self launch, how will you install the mast?
We normally use the club crane, but I’m thinking I should make up a
“Shearlegs” A-frame to hoist/remove the mast without the club crane.

Paul, I launch and retrieve a fin keel f-21 every year at a lake in Pennsylvannia. It is a job that requires some help and concentration. You need more water depth than shoal draft boats.If you have the custom trailer that comes with the boat it’s much easier.Once the boat is in the water, you will be pleased with the sailing performance. Hi Paul,
I have ramp-launched my fin keel Freedom 21 at the New
Mexico Sailing Club’s home base, Heron Lake in northern NM many
seasons. We have a very long launching ramp at a very gentle angle.
This requires sending boat and trailer WAAAY out before the boat will float
free. So we all use a “sling-launch”. The boat is
backed down the ramp until the trailer wheels are getting wet. Then the
trailer and tow vehicle are separated. A third wheel and tire is required
on the front of the trailer. The tow vehicle is moved up the ramp and connected
to the trailer with 40 to 60 feet (or more) of tow rope or cable. Then
the trailer is rolled back into deep water till the boat floats off. This
operation obviously requires some careful planning, wheel chocking, etc.
But we do it here in NM with boats all the way up to Catalina 30s! Retrieval is
reverse of launching.
