looking for used sails

Posted by Manrique Feoli (manrique.feoli@…>)

Hi,

I’m looking for used sails for my boat, a freedom 33 1981, hull no
19, cat ketch (w/ wishbones).

I’m actually looking for the mizzen, however if a main comes along at
a good price I would like to consider it.

Does anyone knows where to start looking for?

best regards.

Masthead Used Sails in Florida has many used Freedom sails. These sails
are not listed on their website, so call 800-783-6953. Good luck.

Regarding sails: DO NOT order sails from St. Augustine Sailmakers, in St. Augustine, FL. I was lied to, paid for the sails and didn’t receive one of them and wouldn’t have since he probably never ordered it. He promised me if would be done since Feb 28th. I just discovered the lies and deceipt a few days ago after a 4 month wait. Please pass the word. I am soooo angry at what Dan did to me that I hope no one ever gets sails or orders from him again. He actually told me he didn’t value me as a customer. What business owner would say that to a customer!!! Thanks all for your help,

my next question is:

Let’s say I am convinced to go to a single ply sail, being attached
to the mast with lines as Norm Friberg suggested here, which sounded
like a great idea to me.

How do I explain this to a sailmaking company?, also do anyone has the
actual sizes, luff, etc. for a freedom 33 1981.

Since it will be used with wishbone and not with booms, the shape of
the sail will differ from standard ones.

any ideas?

Now, please take note that I don’t own or sail a Freedom (yet that is*) so any advice/ideas/suggestions I offer is automatically suspect. Might a rig using webbing rings be less abrasive on the carbon fiber than using line? Maybe the webbing could be lined with a thin teflon- less friction= less wear. We never observed serious wear on the mast from the lines around the
mast, but then again the mast was Awlgripped.
For a description of this type of rig go to the: Freedom-44 board here
on Yahoo and look for the G10 file.
